Arrival: 从北方冬天到南国春天 / From Northern Winter to Southern Spring

高铁从合肥出发，一路向南。车门打开的瞬间，温暖湿润的空气扑面而来——气温已经20多度了！从北方冬天到南国春天，一列车的时间就完成了神奇的时空跳跃。广州，我们来了！

We arrived in Guangzhou by high-speed rail from Hefei. The moment the train doors opened, warm humid air greeted us — over 20°C! In just a few hours, we had traveled from northern winter straight into southern spring. Guangzhou, here we come!

Did you know? 广州又叫”羊城”或”花城”。传说古时候有五位仙人骑着五只羊来到广州，带来了稻穗，从此这里五谷丰登。所以广州也叫”五羊城”！ Guangzhou is also called the “City of Rams” or “City of Flowers.” Legend says five immortals riding five rams brought grain stalks to the city, blessing it with abundant harvests.

Afternoon: 中山大学 / Sun Yat-sen University

百年学府 · A Century of Learning

走进中山大学，映入眼帘的是红砖绿瓦的岭南建筑、参天的古榕树和开阔的大草坪。这里处处透着百年名校的书香气息和南国的蓬勃生机。

The campus greeted us with its signature Lingnan architecture — red brick buildings with green-tiled roofs, towering ancient banyan trees, and sweeping green lawns. Every corner breathes a century of academic heritage blended with lush southern vitality.

Did you know? 中山大学创建于1924年，由孙中山先生亲手创办。学校的英文名就叫 Sun Yat-sen University（“Sun Yat-sen” 是孙中山的粤语拼音），是中国历史最悠久的大学之一。 Sun Yat-sen University was founded in 1924 by Dr. Sun Yat-sen himself. Its English name uses the Cantonese romanization of his name. It remains one of the most prestigious universities in China.

校训 · The University Motto

校训牌匾上刻着十个大字：

“博学、审问、慎思、明辨、笃行”

这十个字出自《礼记·中庸》，是孙中山先生亲笔手书的。意思是：广泛学习、仔细追问、谨慎思考、清楚分辨、踏实践行。这不仅是大学的校训，也是做学问、做人的好方法！

The motto reads: “Study extensively, inquire accurately, reflect carefully, discriminate clearly, practice earnestly.” These words come from the Book of Rites (Liji), Chapter of the Mean (Zhongyong), and were handwritten by Sun Yat-sen himself. They describe not just how to study, but how to live a thoughtful life.

Did you know? 《礼记·中庸》是儒家经典”四书”之一，写于两千多年前。孙中山先生从中选出这五个词作为校训，把古代智慧和现代教育连在了一起。 The Doctrine of the Mean is one of the Four Books of Confucianism, written over 2,000 years ago. By choosing these five principles as the university motto, Sun Yat-sen bridged ancient wisdom with modern education.

古榕与草坪 · Banyans and Lawns

校园里最让人印象深刻的，是那些巨大的古榕树。粗壮的树干上垂下无数气根，像老爷爷的胡须一样随风飘荡。昭昭在榕树小径上跑来跑去，开心极了。大草坪上，妈妈和昭昭一起坐下来，享受着南方温暖的阳光——这是在合肥的冬天里想都不敢想的！

The ancient banyan trees were the most impressive sight on campus. Their massive trunks send down countless aerial roots that sway in the breeze like an old man’s beard. Zhaozhao ran happily along the banyan-shaded paths. On the great lawn, Mom and Zhaozhao sat together soaking in the warm southern sunshine — something unimaginable during Hefei’s winter!

The Two-Bike Invention: 三人两车的发明创造

离开中大，我们需要骑共享单车去下一个地方。可是——三个人，只有两辆车！怎么办呢？

我们的解决方案堪称天才发明：昭昭坐在妈妈的车上负责蹬踏板，艳辉负责扶车把掌握方向。三个人配合默契，两辆共享单车载着一家三口在广州的街道上快乐前行。这大概是共享单车最有创意的打开方式了！

Leaving SYSU, we needed shared bikes to get to our next destination. But wait — three people, only two bikes! What to do?

Our solution was pure genius: Zhaozhao sat on Mom’s bike and pedaled, while Mom (Yanhui) steered and handled the handlebars. The three of us coordinated perfectly, two shared bikes carrying a family of three through the streets of Guangzhou. Possibly the most creative use of bike-sharing ever invented!

Evening: 广州塔夜景 / Canton Tower by Night

小蛮腰亮起来了 · The “Slim Waist” Lights Up

夜幕降临，我们来到了广州的地标——广州塔。这座被市民们亲切称为”小蛮腰”的建筑，是一座世界级的地标商业综合体，高600米，曾经是中国第一高塔。

Evening fell, and we made our way to Guangzhou’s iconic landmark — Canton Tower. Affectionately called “Slim Waist” (Xiao Man Yao) by locals, this world-class landmark commercial complex stands 600 meters tall and was once the tallest tower in China.

粉紫流光变彩虹 · Pink-Purple Glow Becomes a Rainbow

到达时，塔身亮着粉紫色的流光，柔美浪漫。可是等我们走近拍照的时候，灯光突然变了——变成了彩虹色！赤橙黄绿青蓝紫，从塔底到塔尖流动变幻，美极了！春节期间，塔身上还闪烁着大大的”春”字，到处是红灯笼和年味装饰。

When we first arrived, the tower glowed in soft pink and purple, romantic and dreamy. But as we got closer for photos, the lights suddenly changed — to a full rainbow! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, flowing from base to tip in mesmerizing waves. During the Spring Festival, a giant character for “Spring” (chun) blazed across the tower, with red lanterns and festive decorations everywhere.

一家三口在广州塔前留下了合影：身后是流光溢彩的广州塔、古色古香的小宝塔，还有划破夜空的激光束。这张照片，是广州之行最好的开篇！

The three of us took a family photo with the dazzling Canton Tower behind us — the tower in its rainbow glory, a charming pagoda nearby, and laser beams cutting through the night sky. This photo is the perfect opening chapter of our Guangzhou adventure!

Did you know? 广州塔周围有好几家米其林餐厅，从塔上的旋转餐厅到塔下的美食街，应有尽有。不过我们这次决定把”吃”的冒险留给明天的早茶！ The Canton Tower area boasts several Michelin-listed restaurants, from the revolving restaurant in the tower to the food streets below. But we decided to save our culinary adventure for tomorrow’s dim sum breakfast!

今天的住宿是一个小小的省钱秘诀：我们没有用常见的酒店预订平台，而是在高德地图上直接搜索附近的酒店。结果找到了一家干净舒适的小酒店，价格只有锦江之星、亚朵这些连锁酒店的一半！出门旅行，高德地图不只是导航神器，还是省钱利器。

Here’s a little budget hack: instead of booking through the usual hotel apps, we searched directly on Gaode Maps (China’s popular navigation app) for nearby hotels. We found a clean, comfortable budget hotel at half the price of chain hotels like Ji Hotel or Atour. When traveling in China, Gaode Maps is not just for navigation — it’s a money-saving tool too!
